Gainsborough Heritage Association is now taking orders for its new, comprehensive history of Rose Brothers (Gainsborough) Ltd.
Beginning with William Rose’s invention of a tobacco packeting machine in 1885, Rose Brothers grew into a company designing, manufacturing and selling many different types of packaging machines around the world. Now the history of Rose Brothers has been published in a book.
From William Rose’s earliest struggles to perfect his packeting machine through to the merging of Rose Brothers with Baker Perkins, this new book tells the story of one of Gainsborough’s great firms. The book contains photographs of the people, machines and buildings that made up Rose Brothers; together with the story of the Rose family. Also included are memories and anecdotes from many of the people who worked at ‘Roses’ through its long history. The book also contains information about the Rose National Car, Roses Sports Club, The Rose Fire Brigade, Northern Manufacturing Company and the National Folding Box Company.
The 288 page softback edition costs £11.99. Due to its weight (over 1.2kg), it can only be sent it by first class post as it is too heavy for second class post. This costs £5.15 or £5.90 for recorded delivery.
Cheques should be made payable to - "Gainsborough Heritage Association" and sent to: J B Edlington, The Old Bus Depot, Ropery Road, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, DN21 2NS.
